The Lautech Muslim Graduate Association (LAUMGA) Osogbo branch successfully held its highly anticipated Annual Ramadan Lecture on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, at the NPF Mosque, Lameco Junction, Osogbo. The event, which aimed to impart valuable knowledge and strengthen the sense of community among members, was marked by an insightful lecture and the distribution of Ramadan packages to attendees.
In his opening address, the Chairman of LAUMGA Osogbo, Mr. Abduljeleel Owolanwi (OJ Success), expressed his gratitude to the association's members for their continued support, dedication, and commitment to the association’s growth. He shared that one of his key priorities during his tenure was to ensure that the Ramadan Lecture and other impactful programs were held for the betterment of the members and the wider community.
Mr. Owolanwi emphasized the importance of selecting the right speaker to address critical societal issues, which led to the choice of Barrister Idris Gomina to speak on the theme: “Ramadan and Social Justice: Addressing Contemporary Issues in a Corruption-Striving Society.”
He urged all attendees to reflect on the lessons imparted during the lecture and apply them in their daily lives, highlighting the significance of collective efforts towards creating a better society.
The lecture was delivered by Barrister Idris Gomina, who discussed the pervasive issue of corruption in Nigerian society. In his thought-provoking address, Gomina pointed out that celebrating corrupt government officials only perpetuates the culture of corruption.
He argued that when society glorifies corrupt individuals, it enables them to thrive, ultimately undermining the integrity of institutions and the nation as a whole.
Barrister Gomina emphasized the need for reform within governmental institutions, urging that these institutions should be empowered to hold public officials accountable, rather than be subjected to manipulation. He further implored individuals to avoid shortcuts in life, as they often lead to unethical practices and are condemned in the eyes of God.
His call to action was clear: the celebration of corrupt individuals must cease in order to eradicate corruption from society. Only then, he argued, would true social justice be achieved.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the LAUMGA National President, a representative from the Lautech Global President, Hon. Olalekan Badmus, Hon. Wasiu Adebayo, as well as other prominent figures and members of the association.
In addition to the lecture, the event saw the distribution of Ramadan packages to all members and attendees, a gesture aimed at supporting the community during the holy month. These packages, which contained essential food items, were made possible by the generous contributions of LAUMGA members and donors.
The 2025 Ramadan Lecture was a success in fostering unity, education, and social awareness, as it called for an urgent need to address the challenges faced by society, particularly in terms of corruption and social justice.
The LAUMGA Osogbo branch looks forward to organizing more impactful events to continue serving the community and advancing the association’s mission.
