This Is The Political Verdict - A Response To Emmanuel Kupoluyi by Afeez Igbalaye

 

In the labyrinthine arena of Osun State politics, it is a grave fallacy bordering on deliberate mischief for anyone to suggest that a senator who merely lost a reelection bid has forfeited the moral or political legitimacy to aspire to a gubernatorial ticket. Such a preposterous notion is not only bereft of logic, but it also betrays a worrying lack of understanding of democratic principles. 

If one were to extend this line of reasoning to its logical conclusion, then aspirants who have never presented themselves for any form of electoral contest be it as councillors or local government chairmen should, by that same flawed metric, be precluded from entertaining dreams of occupying the exalted office of governor. The hypocrisy embedded in such reasoning is both jarring and intellectually dishonest. *It then becomes compulsory that such an aspirant should test his popularity as a House of Representatives in Isokan/Irewole/Ayedade Federal Constituency or Osun West Senatorial District.*

Furthermore, the dismissal of a candidate solely on the basis of perceived electoral missteps, while ignoring the rich intellectual capital and visionary acumen they bring to the table, is the height of political immaturity. *It is both laughable and lamentable to suggest that a man who has consistently engaged with a sitting Nigeria president, NWC, NEC, leaders of the National Assembly, ministers, governors, thought leaders, academia, policy experts, international media organisations, and grassroots movements lacks the competence to lead a state.*

Conversely, if we are to interrogate the qualifications of those who aspire to the same position, we must ask pertinent questions: What is their cognitive depth? What have they contributed to intellectual or policy discourse? *It is not enough to be seen at religious gatherings or political rallies or to throw around populist rhetoric.* Leadership demands the ability to synthesize complex ideas, articulate policies visions clearly, and engage constructively with diverse political stakeholders, Anyone who lacks these foundational qualities should quietly retreat from the arena and bury his ambition in the ash heap of mediocrity.

Indeed, if the criteria for leadership are to be grounded in intellectual engagement, oratorical clarity, and a demonstrable record of experience and policy articulation, then it is not those who speak eloquently at seminars and symposia who should be called to question, *but rather those whose public communication betrays a stark deficiency in elementary grammar and basic logic. It is an affront to the intelligence of the electorate to attempt to foist upon them a candidate who has not proven his capacity in any intellectual domain, nor shown evidence of visionary thinking. Such individuals, regardless of the volume of sycophantic praise they attract, are ill-suited for the rigours of governance in a state like Osun yearning for progress, innovation, and enlightened leadership.*
